Rolling Paper – Hemp and the Competition
Rolling Paper is the bread and butter of a great smoke session. Most people swear by brands and will use them for the rest of their life. Often you can hear people boast their brands such as
Eminem in his song ‘The Way I Am’:
“I sit back with this pack of Zig Zags and this bag Of this weed, it gives me the shit needed to be”
It’s no surprise; people care about what they use for their session, no matter what they’re smoking. But in the recent years, there has been an increase in two different kinds of paper. Hemp and Organic. Are these two kinds of paper better, do they provide a higher quality smoking process? Let’s dive in and see which one will work best with you.
Regular Paper consists of two main components, paper from trees and a slight adhesive. Usually, a lickable glue like you would find on a stamp. The default rolling paper that comes with tobaccos is usually nothing to write home about. However, Zig Zags, have a much higher strength and are a great option when it comes to smoking.
Hemp papers such as Raw or High Hemp Wraps, are made form hemp and are usually organically grown. Now the main talking point for hemp papers is that two positives make them better for smoking.
Being made from Hemp gives them a better, fuller flavor when smoking.
Being made from hemp also gives it a stronger tensile strength, meaning it will be less likely to rip.
However, for many people the difference between the two is marginal, and it’s sometimes a matter of what is simply available.
Note: For the sake of this discussion, we will be excluding Blunts and Swishes from the comparison.
One final note, on organic wraps. For this part, we might be toeing the line on inciting a riot. But for Organic and Vegan wraps, it does very little to affect the overall flavor.
Organic simply means that where they are grown does not involve pesticides, GMO’s or growth hormones, which for the most part, most growers wouldn’t use this anyway.
When it comes to Vegan wraps, it feels like this was just coined to make them seem either healthier or more ecologically friendly, and this just seems to be a marketing thing. Essentially this means that there were no animal byproducts or interactions with the papers which ultimately makes sense. If you are growing a large amount of hemp, you wouldn’t want anything running around in there messing things up.
